water1Sixty to seventy percent of all living organisms is water. It also covers about two thirds of the surface of the earth but freshwater is much lesser in amount. A very high percentage of the freshwater found on earth take the form of icecaps and glaciers.

Freshwater has a water salinity of less than .5 and are mostly found in lakes, ponds, rivers, underground water sources. It is very important to agriculture. Freshwater are also vital to a person’s life because we need it for drinking but less than one percent of the earth’s freshwater supply can be accessed for human use.

It is said that in about two to three decades, there would be a serious shortage for freshwater. That means people would have difficulty looking for water to drink and water to be used for the cultivation of crops.

At present, water shortage can already be felt by nearly half of the world’s population. Things will even become worse because of global warming and the rapid population growth.  People should not wait for more years to take action. The right time for people to act on this problem is now.
