Truk LagoonTruk Lagoon offers some of the best wreck diving in the world. Located amongst the thousands of Micronesian Islands, Chuuk (or Truk) became one of the most impressive strongholds of the Japanese navy during the war. The island provided a natural sanctuary with an encircling barrier reef, and the Japanese kept a huge fleet of their supply and naval ships there.

Wreck in Truk LagoonIn February of 1944 U.S. Forces launched a surprise attack on the Japanese fleet known as Operation Hailstorm. Over 400 aircrafts and 70 ships were sunk or destroyed and the Japanese were forced to surrender in the tail end of 1945.
Over twenty years later, the phenomenon of this sunken fleet was discovered by divers, including the famous Jacques Cousteau. War ships and aircrafts were preserved within the lagoon; filled with machinery, tanks, and personal mementoes. Truk Lagoon offers some of the world’s most pristine wreck diving within the clear waters of the natural lagoon. Nearly 70 coral-encrusted wrecks, aircrafts and submarines can be dived upon, and will transport you back in time. The wrecks have been relatively untouched and you can still see old uniforms and shoes of the crews, gasmasks, countless bullets, lorries and aircrafts all preserved by the sea. Diving the wrecks of Truk Lagoon is a serene and unforgettable experience. There are sites for all levels, and divers can penetrate the wrecks and visit the old engine rooms and sleeping quarters. The waters are clear, and the life around them is phenomenal. Reef sharks, rays and countless numbers of fish swim amongst the wreckage and the surrounding coral reefs.
